BRILLIANT BAMBOO

Brilliant Bamboo is an organisation in North Staffordshire exploring the potential of UK-grown bamboo for people and the planet. I was invited by Brilliant Bamboo to work at their Brownfield Parklet site in Stoke on Trent.

Triangle, Circle, Square - Creating a large bamboo structure with 42 art and design students from Newcastle College. They worked for over three hours to develop an evolving sculpture using triangles, circles and squares with bamboo, and fly-tipped toys found at the site.

Creative Freedom - I was pleased to work with Brilliant Bamboo and Madeley High School on a Partners in Creative Learning Creative Freedom project.

As part of this brilliant 10-day programme spread from February to June with approx. 121 young people in years 7 and 8. I was one of seven artists who worked with Brilliant Bamboo to introduce the young people into our way of working with artists, and to invite them to be our artists too.

At Madeley High School, we created a bamboo bell tent structure also based on circle, square, triangles. with secondary yr 7 & 8 students in one day. Small groups of pupils visited the structure and added their contribution to it over one day. We were lucky it was a warm sunny spring day and some of the girls even sang while they worked!
