Flee and Survive
Back in 2002 ‘Flee’ & ‘Survive’ project for Refugee Action involved me runnning a series of workshops with a group of women asylum seekers.
Together the women created two wall relief sculptures - 'Flee’ and ‘Survive’ incorporating two large shoes, symbols and text about their feelings as refugees. The pieces were sited symbolically on a wall in Hope Street, the street connecting Liverpool’s two cathedrals in Jan 2003.
The wall mounted sculptures were originally designed to be on temporary display and incredibly have been there over twenty years! In 2024 the Liverpool Bid Company invited me to restore the work. The works were installed back on Hope Street in March 2025 and hopefully will be there for many years to come.
