Sustainable Palm Oil - Chester Zoo
Chester Zoo’s learning team invited Faith to contribute to their Sustainable Palm Oil Campaign working with project school groups at Chester Zoo, 2019. The project approach aims to inspire and enable conservation action through workshops delivered by the Safari Rangers and artists to add another layer of engagement for the schools and students involved. Conservation education should not be limited to scientific knowledge of the facts and often creative subjects allow students to get more immersed in a topic and to express how they plan to take conservation action.
Faith worked with local schools to create an Orangutan and a Tiger sculpture, which are on display in the Jaguar Cafe space. The animals made into sculptures were chosen after discussion about the range of animals affected by loss of habitat caused by the palm oil industry. Faith created four animal maquettes including the Sun Bear and Elephant but eventually settled on making the Orangutan and Tiger.
