The Corona Mandala
The Corona Mandala art project with Childwall Sports and Science Academy was originally planned to happen in autumn 2020 and was postponed until June 2021 due to the school dealing with the COVID-19 restrictions and students needs when returning to school following multiple lockdowns. Faith created a new artwork with students and staff to mark this unique moment in our history. The artwork will be sited outside in school grounds for everyone to see.
During this challenging time we all needed to focus on our health and well-being more than ever so Faith chose a mandala as the form for the artwork. The Mandala is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Buddhism and Hinduism, representing the universe. "mandala" is a Sanskrit word that means "circle". The circular designs symbolizes the idea that life is never ending and everything is connected. Mandalas also relate to the idea of transformation and healing.
The mandala was produced using recycled waste plastics which were collected by the school community. The students were also invited to bring in special objects which were significant to them which were incorprated into the piece.
