Lilies for Peace

This installation features 50 handcrafted Madonna Lilies – a flower native to the region of Palestine and Israel – made from upcycled plastic carrier bags. The lilies were created during workshops held at Asylum Link, by people from across Liverpool’s communities, including those with lived experience of seeking refuge.

The design and method for making the lilies was developed by Liverpool-based artist Faith Bebbington, who facilitated the workshops and guided the production process to bring the installation together.

Imagined and funded by local residents, the project honours the memory of children lost in the ongoing conflict in Palestine and Israel, and all children affected by war. It is a call for peace, reconciliation, and hope. The lilies serve as a symbolic gesture, bringing communities in Liverpool together through a shared expression of grief and a collective longing for global peace.

Liverpool is a city of many cultures. In times of division and global suffering, we are reminded of the power of community, compassion, and solidarity. May we continue to reach out to one another – and together, strive for peace.
