Shakespeare North
I was invited to be an artist in residence for the launch weekend of Shakespeare North Playhouse, in Prescot. After researching Shakesepare I decided to created a cloak of invisibility worn by the Sycorax, a Shakespearean character who is never actually seen on stage. Sycorax is an unseen character in William Shakespeare's play The Tempest. She is a vicious and powerful witch and the mother of Caliban, one of the few native inhabitants of the island on which Prospero, the hero of the play, is stranded. The cloak was made by reusing a range of waste plastics including bottles and wrappers used at the launch event. I invited visitors to try the cloak on and old and young enjoyed their moment of acting invisible! The cloak was on display at the theatre for some months after the launch. The new theatres’ open weekend was a key part of Knowsley Borough Council’s celebrations as the Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture. July 2022
